Question

Section 02820, 2.9, 2.10, 3.6 and 3.7 refer to both bracing and mid rail, neither is indicated on detail A/S.2. Is Bracing or mid rail required on the new fence? Mid rail will add a lot to the cost of the fence and make it easier to climb. The fence could be installed without either one as the top rail is the compression brace and deflection will not occur in the terminal post given the height of the fence and the weight of the terminal posts specified. Section 02820, 3.2 B. and detail A/S.2 are calling for post spacing at 12' on center, industry standard is equally spaced not to exceed 10' on center, is 12' on center the desired post spacing? Section 02820, 3.3 C. requires post footings to be kept moist for 7 calendar days after placement. This is not practical for a fence post footing and in 32 years in this business I have never had to do this, will this procedure be required on this project. Thank you in advance for your reply. Answer

Mid rail is not required, bracing is required per section 02820 3.7. 10' post spacing on center is acceptable. Section 02820 3.3C regarding keeping concrete moist for 7 day not required. Concrete strength to be per section 02820 3.4A.
